Plywood, usually associated with low-quality furniture from the Polish People's Republic, has been dominating Polish interior trends for several years. Furniture made of this material is an excellent alternative to solid wood furniture. Currently found in many modern, and even luxurious and elegant interiors, it fits perfectly into the popular industrial and Scandinavian styles. Among the many types of plywood, foiled and veneered plywood are definitely very famous. Find out how they differ and how to care for furniture made of these materials.
What is plywood?
Plywood is a composite material made of joining (gluing) thin layers of wood crossed with each other. At least 3 veneer panels are glued under the pressure of the press. Plywood is most often made of pine, alder, birch, beech, as well as exotic trees. It is made of plastics obtained in accordance with all environmental standards, and its production does not adversely affect nature and the climate. It is a material cheaper than wood, and at the same time perfectly imitates it.
Characteristics of foiled plywood
It is made by covering ordinary plywood with a layer of phenolic film. In addition, its edges are protected with waterproof acrylic paint, which prevents the penetration of moisture. In the case of smooth plywood, both sides are foiled, while anti-slip plywood has a mesh imprint on the right side, which enhances its function. The material made in this way is resistant to damage, shines nicely and is easy to clean. In addition, it gives the surface a wide range of applications.
Characteristics of veneer plywood
Veneer plywood is made of wood veneers of deciduous and coniferous species, most often oak, alder, ash, pine, which are connected with urea-formaldehyde glue. The glued layers are covered on both sides with high-quality veneer, on the right side with the 1st quality class, and on the other with the 2nd class. It is mainly intended for the production of high-quality furniture and woodwork.
How to care for plywood furniture?
Protecting furniture by caring for it is a guarantee of long-term durability and aesthetics. In this case, it is important what material they are made of. It is worth getting acquainted with a few tips that will result in the fact that the plywood furniture will remain in perfect condition for years. A slightly damp cloth with a little washing-up liquid is perfect for cleaning this type of furniture. Remember, however, not to wet the plywood intensively, especially the veneer ones, for the production of which glue not resistant to water was used. It will also be a good idea to impregnate the furniture with oil. Matte oil will work for waterproof plywood.
Other uses of plywood
Plywood is used not only for the production of lounge and box furniture, but also in construction and transport. They can be used to make the floors of vehicles, trailers, semi-trailers, where the anti-slip plywood mentioned in the article will be perfect. Smooth, waterproof plywood can be used as a construction material for side walls or as a housing for goods transported on pallets.
